- Letterpress is a form of relief
printing. The printing area stands above the non-printing
area.
- It was the first printing process
- The printing area is inked and then pressed against the
paper
- This process is quite slow.
- Rotary letterpress is used to speed things up.
It uses an aluminium plate which holds and text wrapped around
a drum and is rolled over the paper
- Just like the other methods of printing each of the four colours
(CMYK) are added seperately.
|
- Letterpress was widely used up until the late 1980's
- Rotary letterpress is a very economical way of producing
text which is frequently reprinted
- CAD and DTP are not compatible with Letterpress,
so newspapers are now printed using Lithography
|
- Letterpress is not suitable for colour pictures, photos or fine
detail.
- Letterpress is use for printing some books and some packaging
